Therapist Profile - Kurt Hetherington
Kurt Hetherington is a Provisional Psychologist, holding both a Bachelor of Psychological Science from the University of New England, and Graduate Diploma of Psychology (Advanced) from Monash University.
Prior to commencing a career as a psychologist, Kurt worked in the occupational health industry, providing psychosocial support and vocational counselling to physically or mentally injured workers. From his time as a rehabilitation consultant, Kurt navigated interpersonal relationships between multiple parties through mediation and one-on-one sessions, ultimately aiding individuals in their reformation journey and helping develop his personalised approach to therapy today.
Moving into private practice, Kurt has a strengths-based perspective in his sessions, identifying clients’ maladaptive assumptions and beliefs to replace them with a more flexible style of thought. Utilising a range of modalities to find an intuitive and natural approach for each individual, Kurt has a strong interest in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Family Systems Therapy. In his sessions, Kurt assists his clients with depression, anxiety, adjustment disorder, anger, chronic pain, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, emotional regulation, stress management and workplace burnout.
Kurt is an empathetic practitioner passionate about guiding his clients through their mental health journey and providing insight on how they interact with the world, themselves and others. By building on his clients’ strengths, he is able to tailor and develop their practical skills so they can face life’s challenges and move onto happier and healthier futures.
