Therapist Profile - Geraldine McKay

Geraldine is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker and Counsellor, with over 20 years’ experience counselling individuals, couples and families across a range of issues. She holds a Bachelor of Social Work and a Masters of Social Work (Couple and Family Therapy).

Geraldine has broad experience working with individuals to address a range of concerns including depression, anxiety, stress, workplace issues, grief, anger, and family of origin concerns. She is also a highly experienced and skilled relationship counsellor, working with couples presenting with a variety of issues including conflict, infidelity, ambivalence, communication problems, intimacy issues and life cycle transitions. She regularly trains other counsellors in couples counselling techniques.

Geraldine predominantly utilises Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in her work with clients, drawing also from Systemic and Family of Origin therapeutic modalities. Within these frameworks, she is dedicated to taking a holistic approach to her counselling practice, with a particular focus on understanding that every individual and situation is unique.

Geraldine works to empower her clients to overcome the challenges they face, fostering an authentic therapeutic relationship and creating a non-judgmental, safe and supporting environment within which to do so. In this way, she hopes to help her clients lead a more emotionally-balanced and fulfilling life.
