Therapist Profile - Stephen Jacobs
Stephen is a Psychotherapist with a number of years of experience in the mental health space. He holds a Master of Professional Psychology from University of Western Sydney, as well as Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications in Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). He is registered with both AHPRA and the Australian Psychological Society.
Prior to transitioning to counselling, Stephen has had a varied career in the IT, film and gaming industries. Since then, he has gained valuable experience as a counsellor in a variety of settings, including at NSW Health where he worked primarily with adolescents to treat behavioural issues.
Today, Stephen works with both adolescents and adults, using a range of modalities including Clinical Hypnotherapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction therapy, and elements of Transpersonal Psychology. His primary focus, however, is the use of EMDR as a holistic psychotherapy to support a range of emotional and mental health challenges. EMDR is of particular value to trauma-related presentations, but Stephen also successfully uses EMDR, together with other modalities as required, to treat a broad number of concerns. These include, but are not limited to, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, anger issues, PTSD, chronic pain, substance abuse and addictions. Stephen is passionate about the healing potential of EMDR.
Stephen works with his clients to help restore their quality of life and happiness by working through the difficulties present in everyday life, as well as supporting his clients to overcome deeper-held psychological challenges linked to past events and experiences.
Stephen is also fluent in French, and clients may request that their sessions be held in the French language if preferred.
